Village Seconds get revenge for earlier league defeat

The visitors started the brighter and they were playing the ball about with confidence and a determined approach to take the game to the home side.

Dromara were defending well and the away side did not really threaten the home goal but any time the locals went forward the pace of Collins, McConnell and Stevie Neill was a massive threat.

The home side took the lead with a great move with a few passes and a ball into McConnell who played a sublime pass into the feet on the right of Stevie Neill whose cross was hammered home by Collins for his 19th of the season.

This was a major boost for the home side and another great move saw Collins return the favour but Neill’s shot was blocked by the keeper.

Then to the Bangor side’s dismay their centre forward who was a clever player got a straight red for a kick out at Carmichael which he admitted was a stupid rush of blood to the head.

Dromara capitilised on this and scored another excellent goal when Collins played a great through ball for Stevie Neil to take in his stride and place his shot in the bottom corner from the edge of the box. This was the moment when the away side knew it was not going to be their day and just before half time Collins played in McConnell to finish with ease to go into the break three goals to the good.

The second half saw the visitors to their credit keep going and they played some neat and tidy football but Colin Kerr and Phil Neil in the heart of the defence were not giving anything away.

They then went four up when another good move saw Carson’s shot deflected into the net for a deserved goal as he put in another immense performance in the centre of midfield.

This gave manager Gormley then the opportunity to gave some match time to his subs and Devlin, Mitchell and Magennis came on for Collins, Stevie Neil and Hughes to freshen things up again.

The away side pulled a goal back when they were awarded a penalty when Kerr was adjudged to have tripped the left sided player for the Bangor side.

But soon after Devlin at the other end cut inside and his cross was handled and Carmichael stepped up to fire home the spot kick. Other opportunities came and Magennis burst through but his shot was well saved by the keeper.

Just before the end McConnell, who was moved up front and was causing all sorts of problems with his pace, could have added to his tally on several occasions but did eventually make it six with a great individual goal which was deserved for his great performance.
