Villagers readyto cause a shock

Damien McGee’s side have already clinched the First Division title and secured the Sentinel Cup earlier in the season and because of that they go into the final as favourites.

Ardmore have also defeated Friday night’s opponents three times already this campaign and they are unbeaten since September but McGee isn’t taking anything for granted.

“Although we have beaten then three out of the four times we have played them, I have to make sure the players aren’t complacent,” admitted McGee.

“Because we haven’t lost since September you are always worried that you are going to lose sometime, but hopefully it’s not in our final two games, which are cup finals.

“As everybody knows losing a cup final is awful and there is no hiding places, but hopefully we can remain focused and keep our unbeaten run going.”

Like any good manager McGee went and watched Eglinton’s 3-0 semi-final win over Roe Rovers at the weekend and he feels he knows where the threat is going to come from.

“James Boyd played well up front against Roe Rovers, he scored one and set-up another, so he’ll be a danger to us and we’ll have to keep an eye on him.

“While Johnny Hume, Gavin McShane and Peter Doherty are also good players, but we’ll all know what we have to do.”

Probably for the first time in a long while McGee has a fully fit squad to choose from, with centre-back Danny Doherty the only doubt because of work commitments.

“Everyone is fit but we are sweating on Danny and hopefully he’ll be able to get his shift changed around, but apart from him everyone should be available for selection.”

As for Eglinton manager Sean Hargan he’s happy with his side having the underdogs tag going into the final.

“We know that we are underdogs but that doesn’t bother us,” insisted the Villagers gaffer.

“I feel on our day we are capable of beating any side not just in the First Division but also the Premier Division.

“Ardmore have already won the First Division, Sentinel Cup and are in two cup finals and that’s a credit to them, but we’ll be up for the game and at the end of the day it all depends who performs the better on the day will win.

“We had a good win over Roe Rovers in the semi-final and we have beaten Ardmore once already this season, so we know that we can beat them, but I feel if we do then we’ll have beaten the best team in North West Junior football.”
