Wakehurst boss encouraged despite defeat at seaside

Gregg felt the Ballymena men responded well from a 6-1 defeat to Limavady in their previous outing.

“We made a number of changes in formation and personnel and we looked much more positive, both defensively and in attack,” Gregg told Times Sport.

“But we were undone by conceding two goals from poor marking at corners and an individual error which led to the second goal.

“They were two fairly evenly matched teams but we lacked a bit of cutting edge when attacking,” added Gregg.

Wakehurst fell behind to a header from a corner five minutes before half-time and their task got harder two minutes after the re-start when a Portstewart player intercepted an Owen Gregg pass before going on to beat keeper Marc Maybin.

Wakehurst got back into the game when leading goalscorer Conor Gregg made space in the penalty area and although his shot was beaten out by the keeper, Corey Price was following up to slot home the rebound.

But as they chased an equaliser, Wakehurst were hit by a third goal, a free header from a corner.

Wakehurst face Queen’s University at Mill Meadow this Saturday.
