Wakehurst comeback earns point at Corner

WAKEHURST and Chimney Corner shared the spoils in a six-goal thriller in Saturday's IFA championship Two basement battle at Allen Park.

Ten minutes after the start the deadlock was broken in spectacular fashion.

Henry Nutter stole the ball 25 yards out and his long-range shot was destined for the top corner the moment it left his foot.

Wakehurst equalised on the 25th minute when Steven McIlroy put through Gavin Burnside who chipped the ball over the Chimney Corner 'keeper.

Just three minutes later the home side were back in front with another long-range effort. Adam Gray put one in from 20 yards in an attempt to better the first goal.

Five minutes into the second half Chimney Corner went 3-1 into the lead as Paul McIntyre's cross shot fell to Robbie Lucas to tap in.

Davy Paul's shot hit the bar for Wakehurst before, in the 81st minute a lofted ball into the Chimney Corner resulted in an own goal as Simon Gibson backwards header looped over his 'keeper.

Wakehurst then got a late equaliser through a penalty as Conor Gregg was bought down in the box. Gregg then stepped up to slot home the penalty.

Wakehurst's next match is at home to Dergview this Saturday, May 1.
