Wakehurst fall to yet another one-goal defeat

WAKEHURST suffered their fifth successive single-goal defeat when they went down 2-1 to Knockbreda Parish in Saturday's IFA Championship Two match.

Five minutes into the game Knockbreda took an early lead when a free kick from long distance was looped into the box. The keeper couldn’t claim the cross and when it fell John Burns he prodded it home from close range.

Wakehurst responded well and registered several shots on target, the best of which involved Gavin Burnside trying to chip the keeper but it went behind for a corner.

The equaliser came 69 minutes in, a free kick crossed by Mark Crawford was headed on target but as the keeper parried the shot, Davy Paul was there to pick up the pieces.

The match wasn’t level for long as substitute Miguel Chines restored the home side’s advantage two minutes later.

In the 88th minute a couple of chances in quick succession for Wakehurst gave opportunities for a way back into the game but the away side could not capitalise and Knockbreda held out to secure the win and the three points.
