Wakehurst snap up Lemon from Raceview

Lemon follows in the footsteps of his brother Arron, who began his second spell at the club with a goal on his ‘debut’ in Saturday’s Belfast Telegraph Championship Two win at Annagh United.

“Jordan was first brought to my attention a couple of years ago and I’ve kept an eye on him since then,” Gregg told Times Sport.

“He’s got good feet and a good attitude and he has shaped up well in training with us.

“Unfortunately we weren’t able to get the paperwork completed in time for last weekend but I’m hopeful he’ll come into contention for our trip to Glebe Rangers this Saturday.”

The manager is also monitoring the situation regarding his son Conor, the club’s top goalscorer, who is reportedly attracting interest from Premiership clubs.

“Conor took his tally for the season to 15 on Saturday and he has been playing out of his skin so I’m not surprised there’s interest in him,” added Gregg, who was pleased with his side’s performance in Portadown.

“We were missing five players so to get a result and a performance like that gives me reassurance over the quality within the squad,” added Gregg.

Former Ballymena United striker Shea Campbell put Annagh ahead after only 4 minutes, heading past Marc Maybin from a right wing cross by Frances McCann.

This didn’t unsettle the visitors and they gradually built up a head of steam until they grabbed an equaliser on the half-hour mark. Phil Alexander robbed Campbell just on the half-way line and his measured pass found Conor Gregg 35 yards out.

The striker turned sharply, went past both Iain Latimer and Ritchie Allen, took a quick check on the target and fired a glorious shot high into the net with keeper David Vogan merely a spectator.

The visitors didn’t have to wait too long for a second and Paul didn’t make any mistake this time. On 35 minutes Alexander, Gregg and Paul combined in a slick passing movement on the right and Paul coolly chipped Vogan from the edge of the box.

And still Wakehurst weren’t finished as they continued to over-run the home defence. Paul picked up a ball wide on the left and moved inside Allen and Acheson before sliding the ball through to Aaron Lemon, making his first appearance after his move from Larne and he casually stroked the ball past Vogan to give his team a 3-1 half-time advantage.

Wakehurst controlled the second half from start to finish. The back four were totally dominant and Mark Crawford was back to his best in midfield winning vital tackles and finding team-mates with a series of accurate passes.

On the hour Crawford found Lemon wide on the left and he broke forward with purpose delivering a great cross for Gregg to steer the ball past Vogan for number four.
