The home side had a great chance to take the lead on 18 minutes but youngster James McClay, who also played well in midfield wasted the chance, his left footed shot from the edge of the box sailed well over the bar.

Town did break the deadlock against the run of play on 20 minutes when a poor defensive header by Paddy McLaughlin, fell to Chris McGrath and he calmly lobbed the flat footed Marty Gallagher.

’Stute levelled things five minutes later in super fashion when midfielder Declan McKeever skipped away from a few challenges before firing low into Kieran Maguire’s bottom left hand corner from 25 yards.

Minutes later the Drumahoe club had a super chance to take the lead when McEneff played a defensive splitting pass to release Darren McFadden, but the young striker saw his side footed shot easily saved by Maguire.

Institute were inches away from going in front when McEneff saw his great long range shot superbly tipped onto the post by a full stretched Maguire.

Right on the stroke of half-time a Sean Roddy free-kick, which had Maguire beaten, came back off the bar and Paddy McLaughlin’s follow-up effort although well hit was somehow kept out by Town’s net-minder.

Early in the second half another defensive mistake by the home side allowed McGrath in, but unlike the first half, his attempted chip was easily saved by Gallagher.

Sloppy play by McKeever on 80 minutes nearly cost the Waterside men when he lost possession to Conor Downey, but the midfielder’s first time shot from 25 yards was saved by Gallagher.

With five minutes remaining a sublime left wing cross by substitute Graeme Taylor found Walsh at the back post and his powerful header, flew past Maguire.
