Warrenpoint seal points against Portadown to boost league survival bid

Barry Gray's January transfer window business is certainly paying dividends as two of his on-loan signings from Cliftonville secured another vital three points in Warrenpoint Town's battle for Premiership survival.

Second half goals from Martin Murray and Johnny McMurray were enough to see the home side to their second league win on the bounce after having gone over four months since their only other league victory this season.

It was no more than they deserved against a Portadown side who were simply lacklustre after the break having been on top in the first half.

Warrenpoint had arguably the best chance of the opening 45 minutes just before the break when, after enjoying their best spell of the match up until that point, Liam Bagnall whipped in a dangerous cross from the left and in-form striker Stephen Murray, who already had seven goals in his last six games to his name going into this match, headed wide when he should have hit the target.

Warrenpoint went in front with 19 minutes remaining when Murray collected a pass from sub Johnny McMurray on the edge of the box and his left foot shot deceived Brennan, creeping into the bottom right corner for his third goal in as many games.

Town deservedly doubled their lead with ten minutes to go when Stephen Murray slid McMurray in from the left and the striker showed fleet of foot to race clear and produce a cool finish with his left foot past Brennan.
