Having had a surprise defeat to bottom club Bangor in their previous outing, the Waterside men showed great character and deservedly claimed the points at Hagan Park.

“The last few times we have lost we actually responded very well,” he stated.

“Kilmore Rec was the last team to beat us prior to Bangor and we went on something like a 10 match unbeaten run, so if we can go on a similar run that will probably see us through.

“But we have a lot tougher task ahead of us but I still feel it’s in our own hands, we have Warrenpoint to come, we have to go away to Ards and we have Carrick Rangers who are trying to creep up.

“I would rather be in our position than Carrick’s, we are nine points clear of them and they have to win those games in hand to go level with us, they’ll be playing two or three times a week, it’s a big ask for part-time players.”

Donaghy also felt that the 2-1 score-line flattered the County Tyrone men, as ’Stute, not for the first time this season, should have won by a bigger margin.

“The 2-1 score-line didn’t reflect the game, but we have had quite a few incidents of that this year,” stated Donaghy.

“If we had a cutting edge and I’m not blaming the forwards, we all have responsibilities to chip in with goals, be it a centre-half from set-pieces or full-backs who we like to get bombing on, it’s a collective issue, which obviously we are going to continue to work on.

“It’s OK working on it, but once you go into a game situation we have been a wee bit lacking in that area, but hopefully we’ll get it right in the last five or six games.”
