Waterside men buzzing

FOR the first time since the Christmas break there was a full programme of fixtures in local junior soccer. The twice postponed City Cup took centre stage and there was one upset with Eglinton defeating BBOB.

In the only game in the Premier Division Lincoln Courts lost ground on the leaders after their defeat to City Colts. Its back to league action this Saturday.

Drummond United v Newbuildings United Res

Chris Moore’s side will be hoping for a change of fortune in the new year after a poor 2011, he has some useful players in his side but doesn’t always get them out together.

Newbuildings did well before the break and with their first team flying high in the Irish Cup things are certainly buzzing, they may collect the points.

Prediction: Newbuildings United Res.

Roe Rovers v BBOB

The Roesiders are very much title contenders with games in hand over the leaders, they showed their well being with an easy City cup success last week where they again scored five goals.

Don Olphert certainly has a job on his hands trying to restore some pride to his ailing troops, they were very disappointing in last Saturday’s cup defeat, another three points for the home side.

Prediction: Roe Rovers

Sion v Maghera Strollers

The Tyrone men got their new year off to a bad start when they lost to Ardmore in the City Cup, they are one of the candidates for relegation unless they can strengthen.

The visitors would have been delighted to just get a game last week as they have had the majority of their games postponed because of their home pitch, however they are still a very good side and should find this easy.

Prediction: Maghera Strollers.

Greysteel v City Colts

The Colts had an impressive win in the league last week but they like a few other sides look set for a relegation battle, in fairness to them they are bringing on the youth and they must stay in the top division if they want to continue that.

The home side are in one word inconsistent, one day they are capable of beating anyone in the division on another day they can be very poor, however this may be one of their good days.

Prediction: Greysteel.

Dungiven Res v Lincoln Courts

This could be a cracker; the home side did well before the break and at home they are a very difficult side to beat, however they don’t always have a settled side and that has cost them in a number of games.

The Courts are going all out to win the title, manager Wayne Glenn knows what it takes and he will demand 100 per cent from his troops in all games, however they may have to settle for a share of the spoils.

Prediction: Score Draw.
