Watson delighted with ‘Wee Reds’

BALLYCLARE Comrades Reserves turned in a five-star performance against Killymoon Rangers Reserves in a Ballymena Junior League Division 1 fixture at the weekend.

Three up at the interval at Threemilewater Park, Jonty Watson’s lads added a couple more after the break to finish deserved 5-0 winners.

“I was greatly impressed by this performance. The lads played excellent pass and move football and had their opponents chasing shadows most of the afternoon,” said Watson.

“We had won our first three matches, but conceded a goal on each occasion, so I challenged the defence to produce a clean sheet and they did the business to extend our 100 per cent League and Cup record.

“There were good performances all over the pitch, but Richard MacAuley at right-midfield played out of his skin and was a worthy Man of the Match winner.”

Killymoon were in trouble as early as the fourth minute when full-back Brian Wilson headed home at the back post.

Ten minutes later Jonathan Boyd, with a clear run on goal, doubled the lead with a low strike from 20 yards.

The visiting keeper was fortunate to survive twice when efforts by Harry Spence and MacAuley rattled the crossbar.

The pressure paid off in the 40th minute when Jonathan Boyd picked out MacAuley who applied a postage-stamp finish.

Midway through the second session the Boyd twins combined effectively for Matt to get his name on the scorecard with a drive from outside the box, and in the 76th minute substitute Mark Conn completed the rout with a crisp finish.
