Waveney 'dogged' by bad fortune

WAVENEY Youth under-13s exited the Plate competition in bizarre circumstances on Saturday.

Needing a victory against Comber to avoid going out of the competition, , Waveney led 2-1 at the break thanks to a brace of goals from Jonathan Logan.

Then with 10 minutes remaining disaster and controversy struck. As Comber broke down the left hand side a stray dog ran across the Waveney goal mouth.

The Waveney players stopped and as the ball came across the face of the goal a Comber player put the ball into the net.

The travelling support appealed with the referee that the goal should have been disallowed as the dog represented an outside agent coming onto the field of play but the appeals were ignored and the score was level.

Knowing that this was a must win game and that time was against them the boys pushed for the winner and the all out attack was to cost Waveney even a point in this game as with only a minute remaining Comber broke to score and the game ended 3-2.

Waveney have now five remaining league games to play before the end of season date of May 8, the next of which is this Saturday against Carnmoney Colts at Mallusk (10.30am).

Waveney: K Brown, Nico Dunlop, J Stewart, J Logan, M Henry, A Weir, C Gaston, M Balmer, R Stewart, K Jackson, R Corrigan, J Hanlon, J Frew.
