Wayne can’t wait to get started

THE build up to the new season is getting closer with the publication of the fixtures, but for one player it can’t come quick enough.

Keeper Wayne Drummond is counting down the days until he can finally pull on a shirt for his new club. And his first competitive game for the Bannsiders will be back at one of his old stomping grounds after Oran Kearney’s men were paired with Glentoran on the opening day of the season.

“I honestly cannot wait for it now,” Drummond told Times Sport.

“Everyone was waiting for the fixtures to be announced last week as it means the new season is getting that bit closer.

“To be honest it’s a great game for us to start with. I feel it’s always better to play the big teams on the opening day as it adds an edge to the game.

“The Oval is always a great ground to play at and hopefully come August 10 the sun will be shining and we get a big crowd to cheer us on to a winning start.

“I have a decent record playing there so hopefully it will continue.”

In the first month of the season the Bannsiders will host Portadown and Crusaders, either side of an away game against Glenavon.

“It’s a tough start for us but to be honest I don’t think there will be too many easy games this year,” he added.
