‘We are all in this together’ says new Glebe manager, Wilmont

Sitting on six points from eight games in Championship Two, Glebe’s new management team of Wilmont, Ian Bellingham, Jonny Hume , and Ricky Nicholl, will be desperate to win and to close the gap on the teams above them.

“I’m over the moon with the appointment. I just can’t wait to get started,” Wilmont told the Times.

“I think that the players are already there to get the Glebe up the league. They are just lacking a bit of self belief, but there is plenty of quality in this group of players.

“Hopefully with a little bit of a change in our luck we will start climbing up the league.

“I was just looking at where Coleraine FC were about six weeks ago. Now look where they are. All it took was a change in team spirit. That is what we are looking for.”

The new man at the helm paid tribute to the outgoing manager, Peter Cairns.

“Even in Peter’s last game in charge I felt that we deserved to take points and there were a few other occasions where we only lost out by the odd goal.

“Every good team I ever played for had a great spirit and had players who fought for the shirt. I’ll be telling those men in possession of the shirt that if they play well they will hold onto it.

“I thought about bringing in maybe one or two from outside the club, but I realised the benefit of having all the coaches being from the Glebe - it brings a passion which will feed down to the team. It will make them believe and that will bring greater effort. I don’t mind losing if every man has given his all for the shirt.

“I want everyone to realise that we are all in it together.

“I won’t be making any wholesale changes but it is up to the players to prove to me that they are passionate about playing for Glebe Rangers. The emphasis is on them to perform.”

Wilmont’s first game in charge will be at home on Saturday against Banbridge Town in Championship Two.
