we can still claim promotion place

Banbridge Town boss Ryan Watson says his side haven’t ruled out gaining promotion just yet.

Town are currently six points adrift of that all-important second place.

They travel to take on joint second Queens’ University on Saturda(kick-off 3pm) knowing a win could fire them right back into the promotion chase.

“We’ll not rule anything out but we’re rank underdogs for promotion,” said Watson.

“We’re outsiders. There are 11 games to go so there are a lot of points still to play for. We have to play a lot of the teams above us at Crystal Park. Who knows?

“The results over the last few weeks haven’t help us though. We needed to be getting full points from the game against Portstewart and Sport and Leisure Swifts. They’re matches that we should be picking up maximum points from.

“We’re determined to keep pushing and we’ll see how high we can finish. Armagh have the Intermediate Cup semi-final still to think about and teams have games to catch up.”

Saturday’s opponents Queens, of course, also have one eye on a Cup campaign as they are through to the Irish Cup semi-final. They’ve only suffered one league defeat all season but Watson isn’t ruling out causing an upset.

“We’ll be the underdogs but we have a chance,” he said.

“We can compete with any team in this league but this season, we haven’t come up to standard against the top teams in the division. This will be a huge test
for us.

“It’s a big test of our ability because Queens are absolutely flying at the minute.

“Their Irish Cup run is a great achievement for a Championship Two team. They have a lot going on and a lot to play for in the league and the Cup.”
