‘We deserved more’ from game says Mullan

Not for the first time in recent weeks, United boss Neil Mullan said pretty much the same things after the game.

“I’m standing talking to you after another game where we have competed well, but ultimately lost the game,” he commented.

“You could just have used what I have said over the last few weeks, because it has been pretty much the same.

“I know we have lost the game, but we do have six under 18 year olds in the squad for this game.

“However, even with that, I felt that we played the better football in the game and deserved something from it.”

Mullan knows that his side lack the experienced cutting edge up front which has been a problem this season.

“It’s obvious that we do lack the experience up front and the real cutting edge in the final third,” he continued.

“We need much more power, pace and strength in that area, because that was all there was between the two sides.

“Jordy (Thompson) will be a very good player, but he does lack the strength at the moment because he is still a teenager.

“When he had that chance in the game, he was caught well by the much bigger defender, but that will come for him.”

Despite the loss, the Limavady man still felt that his side had done more than enough to get something from the match.

“I felt on the balance of play in the game that we deserved something from the game, a point at least.

“I’m pleased that we competed well with a side that are in the top five of Championship One.

“It is, however, frustrating that we still lost the game in the end – but that’s the way it has been for a few months now.”

Mullan was, however, very disappointed with the referee who he felt denied his side an obvious and clear penalty.

“I spoke to the referee after the game and I did ask him nicely why he didn’t give a penalty when Jordy was bundled over.

“I said to him our man got the ball first and was then taken out by the defender, which was obvious.

“He said to me that not all contact is a foul, but inside the box it was clear that Jordy got the ball first.

“Anywhere else on the pitch then the referee will give a foul, so I just don’t know why he didn’t give it,” he concluded.
