'We didn't deserve that' - Gregg

INSTITUTE manager John Gregg was bitterly disappointed following their loss to Glenavon, on Saturday.

Gregg who like many 'Stute supporters couldn't believe his side conceded two goals in stoppage time, admitted it was a hard lesson to learn.

"I definitely feel we didn't deserve that, but whenever you are down there these are the type of things which happen to you," said Gregg.

"I think with 92 minutes on the clock we had a shot at their goal, when I believe we should have been trying to close the game out and that's school boy stuff, in fact both goals were school boy errors.

"Their first goal, the ball fell to Trevor Molloy and he had three touches and then he lifted his head, before putting the ball into the bottom corner and we were ambling out to him.

"Then Marty (Quinn) did which he did whenever he was at Bangor and threw four players up front, but before they scored they never looked like scoring and that's the killer for me."

The Coleraine man felt his side did more than enough to get at least a share of the spoils but some nave decisions from his players cost them dear.

"This is very hard to take, but with 90 minutes on the clock we're still trying to break forward and shoot at goal instead of killing the game off and taking the ball into the corner to run the clock down.

"We were also guilty of schoolboy stuff and we made schoolboy errors late in the game despite having defended so well throughout the 90 minutes when they never looked like scoring against us.

"We failed to close them down at that stage of the game which was very disappointing.

"Throughout the 90 minutes I was very happy at the way we had been playing and, to be totally fair, my players worked very hard but that finish felt like a dagger driven into the heart and we certainly didn't deserve that," concluded Gregg.
