'We got out of jail' - Gregg

INSTITUTE manager John Gregg admitted his side were lucky to be still in this season's JJB Sports Irish Cup, following Saturday's score-draw with Ballymoney United.

Gregg who conceded there were some harsh words in the dressing room at half-time, felt his players 'got of out jail', when they produced another mediocre display.

"I'm very relieved that we are still in the cup," he said.

"I feel in some ways we got out of jail and credit to Ballymoney, they worked hard and came to us to cause a shock and nearly got it.

"We had a very good word at half-time and the players were told that this could be a problem because of the way they were playing.

"We were very poor in the first half and to be honest didn't start playing until they scored and that's a fact.

"Cup football was good to us last year but it nearly came back to bite us this season and I'm very grateful we got a second bite at the cherry tonight (Wednesday).

"We got an equaliser and worked hard to get it, but outside of that we were way off and I can't be more honest than that."

The Coleraine man was also annoyed that for all their possession particularly in the second half, 'Stute never really penetrated the Ballymoney defence.

"For all the pretty football we did, the only times when we caused them bother, was the same plays which caused teams bother last season - that was by putting them under pressure and getting the ball down their throats.

"Nine times out of ten goals come from mistakes, but we were wanting to pass, pass and pass and to be fair we thought we were special and we looked like we were players.

"To be honest it teaches you a lesson and I said before the game that cup football is all about the team who wants it most and for 60 or 70 minutes we looked very lethargic.

"You can use the four week break but it was the same for both teams and everyone has their problems."

The only man who Gregg praised was goalscorer Shaun Holmes.

"We have a terrible habit whenever both James (Quigley) and Ruairi (Boyle) are missing, everybody looks around my team for someone else to do something and to be fair Shaun Holmes was that man on Saturday.

"I thought (Sean) Friars tried to get on the ball but there was too many mistakes, we tried to pass the ball square too many times and we nearly shot ourselves in the foot three or four times because of that."
