Wee Bannsiders pick up good wins in the NIBFA Cup on Saturday

Coleraine Under-12s took on Don Bosco at the Crescent in the first round of the NIFBA Cup in what was was unfamiliar territory for the Coleraine boys who usually play 9-a-side rather than 11-a-side.

The game was even and open with limited chances for both teams on a poor pitch. Coleraine had the first chance but Don Bosco’s thwarted the attack from Clarke and Symington. The second half started with Coleraine settling into the game and playing better football giving McElfatrick the opportunity to score a superb goal. Coleraine were trying to pass the ball but again this was proving hard with the sustained work rate of Don Bosco’s and the pitch but a moment of brilliance by Twigg, who scored from what looked to be an impossible angle, made it 2-0 and sealed the win for the Bannsiders.

This was a great game of football and an excellent team effort with all the kids displaying confidence and freedom on the ball, the coaching team are very encouraged by the performance.

Coleraine Under-15s were also in NIBFA Cup action on Saturday morning as they travelled to take on an unknown Tristar Boys team in the first round.

The match took place on a very small and bumpy pitch, and, with less than four minutes gone Tristar took the lead to put Coleraine on the back foot.

However, a minute later, Paddy Quigg, who had another fantastic game struck the net to equalise. The rest of the half was pretty even, but on 21 minutes, Gareth Kealey made a world class save to deny Tristar taking the lead.

In periods of the second half Coleraine stepped up the tempo and controlled the play, however they failed to get the illusive winner.

With only a couple of minutes to play, Jordan Pollock, showed some individual skill, taking on and beating three Tristar defenders, only to be taken down inside the box.

The penalty was awarded, however Coleraine failed to close out the game - shooting wide.

In extra time Coleraine dominated, and Tyler Goligher struck from the edge of the box to give Coleraine the lead, and ultimately the win.
