Wee Reds left kicking their heels

Star defeated Killymoon to enhance their pole Ballymena Junior League Division 1 position, but the Wee Reds in second spot have four games in hand.

“I was frustrated when our match against Tobermore United Reserves was called off for the third time this season, owing to Fortwilliam Park being waterlogged,” said Reserves manager, Stephen Hughes (pictured).

“Castle Star have played a few games more games than we have, so I am quietly confident that we will be able to bring the league championship trophy back to Dixon Park for the third successive season,” he said.

If the Tobermore match had gone ahead Hughes would have been without ace striker Mark Conn and defender Joel Cooper, who had been called up to the senior panel for the Intermediate Cup tie against Armagh City, but hopefully they will be cleared for Saturday’s Canada Trophy fourth-round tie against Carnmoney at Threemilewater Park.

Hughes is likely to select from: Nicholl, W McAllister, McIlwaine, Rainey (C), D McAllister, Todd, Cooper, Thompson, McTaggart, Dougan, McMaster, Crowe, Ellis, Conn, Apsley, McGarry.
