'We'll keep fighting to the end' - says McLaughlin

DEFENDER Paddy McLaughlin left Drumahoe on Saturday battered and bloodied and he too was shell shocked following their 2-1 defeat to Glenavon.

The big centre-back, who has been in and out of the 'Stute starting line-up this season, couldn't believe he and his team-mates let slip their one goal advantage as the game entered the 92nd minute.

"We were ahead and well in control of the game until the 92nd minute and to lose the game was bitterly disappointing, to be honest there isn't much I can say," admitted the ex-Newry City man.

"You have to see the game out when you are in the 92nd minute, but we didn't and that's disappointing.

"We were 1-0 up two minutes into injury time and it was in our own hands so to lose the game I would have to say it's the lowest I have felt this season.

"However we just have to get on with it now and make sure we are up and ready for the Linfield match this Friday."

The experienced defender, who returned to the Institute squad after missing their previous two matches, scored the opening goal on Saturday, but that rare strike was forgotten about after the match.

"To be honest I'm not that bothered about the goal, the only thing that matters is the result and we didn't get it, so it doesn't matter about anything else.

"At the minute just after the match then yes everyone in the dressing room is down, but right up until the end you could see that we had belief and we'll certainly keep fighting until the end.

"There is a few experienced heads in our dressing room and we'll just pull together and hopefully get ourselves out of trouble.

"It's still in our own hands as (Lisburn) Distillery are two points behind us (prior to last night's matches) and hopefully we can get a few results before now and the end of the season.

"We have Linfield this Friday and it's a big game, but the players should be able to raise themselves for that match and you never know what might happen.

"At the end of the day Distillery have done it in recent weeks against sides above them in the table, so why can't we," declared McLaughlin.
