‘We’ll not fear anyone’ - McCauley

INSTITUTE midfielder Darren McCauley isn’t bothered who they get in tomorrow’s Irish Cup fifth round draw.

The Gobnascale man, who’s header was enough to see off Dergview in Saturday’s tie, is like everyone behind the scenes at Drumahoe hoping for a home draw.

“We would like a home game, so that we can give our fans something to shout about, hopefully we’ll get a good draw and bring a big team here, that’s what we want,” he stated.

“We want to show what we have got and test ourselves against the big teams. We’ll not fear anyone even if it’s a Premiership team, in a cup game there is nothing really for us to lose and no matter who we are playing we just want to win, we want to win every game that we play in.”

The 21-year-old feels the two week break he and his team-mates have now could be ideal for them to recharge their batteries for the remainder of the season and he also feels their next match against Limavady United is the perfect tonic.

“Hopefully it does us no harm, but after Saturday that’s two games in a row that we have won and I think a level of consistencey is what we need now, so maybe this break will give us a wee rest and we can then get back at it after the break.

“We have the perfect game to come back too after the break a derby at Limavady United, we don’t mind that as we know what we are capable of doing and we know that we can beat anyone on our day.

“Maybe we need a bit of street craft at times, I think that is something we are lacking, but what we lack for in that we make up for in other departments and I think we are getting better at our determination and organisation, which is a credit to the coaches and the players.”

McCauley was the first to admit that their victory over Dergview certainly wasn’t a classic, but he was also happy to get himself back on the score-sheet.

“When it comes to cup games we just want to win them,” he insisted.

“We put in a hard shift and that type of game, was a match maybe a year ago we would have lost, so I think we showed a good attitude and good competitiveness.

“I scuffed a couple in the first half and I don’t score many these days, I did when I was younger, but not any more, so it’s always nice to get a goal but obviously the main thing was to just get through.”
