Wesley crosses 'derby' divide

NEW Ballymena United assistant manager Wesley Gregg is prepared to ignore the stick from his family in order to bring success to the Sky Blues.

As a Portstewart man, Wesley is from the heartland of United's traditional rivals Coleraine but he has no qualms about upsetting his nearest and dearest in his new role.

"I was born and raised in the Crescent in Coleraine, just minutes away from Coleraine Showgrounds, so to be taking on a key role at Ballymena seems a bit strange,” he admits.

"My brother's already calling me a 'dipper'!" joked Wesley.

Wesley, who works for the IFA, as a Grassroots Development Officer, says he was delighted to be offered the role at the Showgrounds.

"I work in Ballymena in conjunction with the Council, so it seems like perfect sense now to be involved with Ballymena United.

Wesley has already started his role with Ballymena, and he says he's been impressed by the Club.

"When I gave a presentation as part of my Pro Licence, I based it on the concept - One Club, One Community, and that's exactly the thinking behind Ballymena United.

"They are a very progressive club, and I am only glad to be part of that jigsaw.

"Roy Walker is a fantastic manager who has given me a free reign with the coaching side of things, and I am raring to go," added Wesley.
