West Church to switch to one team in District League for next season

WEST Church's representation in next season's Ballymena and District Indoor League will be halved.

With a number of the Craig Hall club’s players opting to play their bowls elsewhere next term, the club has merged the remainder of its ‘A’ and ‘B’ team panels and will play under the name of West Church.

The change was rubber-stamped at last week’s league AGM where, despite some suggestions prior to the meeting, no team put forward any notices of motion with regard to changing the structure of the league to two divisions.

Instead, it will remain as three divisions with eight teams in the first and third tiers and nine in the second.

The handicapping system in the League Cup will also remain in place for the 2010/11 campaign.

Among the other items discussed was concern expressed by several clubs about the lack of young players taking up the sport.

David McQuitty (First Ballymena) was elected as league chairman for the forthcoming season with Bobby Fleming (Golf Club) as vice-chairman.
