Whites Academy impress in Scotland

It was a quiet week at on the home front at the Lisburn Distillery Academy but the U-15s and the U-16s did the club proud on their trip to Dundee Utd.

The 15s put up a creditable display before going down 4-0 to their Scottish counterparts, Billy Shannons 16s fared even better winning 5-2.

It was a great opportunity for the boys, who certainly showed all at the Scottish Premership club the talent at Distillery’s own Academy

On the league front, a 1-1 draw for the U13s against Sunnyside means it looks like either a second or third place finish for the Wee Whites.

The U14s had a high scoring 4-4 draw with Donegal Celtic. At mini soccer the U8s had another high scoring game with Crusaders and for the U10s, Ross White and Jack Bonar were on target in games with St. Marys and SOPYC.

u10s reports

It was a Silent Saturday at all the IFA SSG centres were the parents, supporters and coaching staff all had to remain quiet throughout to allow the boys to make their own decisions on the pitch.

The U10s certainly seemed to relish what at times was an eerie silence when they put in a super display against St. Marys. Ross White got himself four goals all of which came at the end of flowing passing moves.

The midfielders Jake Donaghy, Conall Cunningham, Jonathan McCullough and Calum Ashby all had super games, with Jake and Conall in particular linking up on numerous occasions to prise open the opposition defence.

Credit must go to St. Marys who never gave up the fight, their centre forward was as usual dangerous throughout although it must be said Spencer Maxwell had an outstanding game in the Whites defence. Their number six in midfield also impressed when he got into the game.

Jack Bonar stepped up from the U10 Whites to get the last five minutes and also got himself a goal with his first touch.

The U10 Whites didn’t seem to cope as well with the silence against the same SOPYC they had played so well against in a friendly the previous Sunday.

The first period and a half of this game was very even with the two well matched sides somewhat cancelling each other out. Bradley White was his usual combative self and he was supported well by James Clyde and Michael Rocks, who came closest to scoring with a dipping shot from distance.

The boys then seemed to go to sleep a little and allowed Plunkett to take control and despite the heroics from Whites keeper Lewis Doyle, they got a few deserved goals.

It was a disappointing finish to the game but hopefully only a blip for the Whites and the boys can get back to form in next week’s game with Shankill Juniors.
