Whites’ cock-a-’hoop’ as unbeaten run goes on

Lisburn Distillery returned to Championship One action against fellow Premership demotees, Donegal Celtic.

The Whites had the first sight of goal on five minutes as Ben Browne corner nearly found Kris Pike but McErlean in the Celtic got it into his grasp.

Stuart Thompson bombed up the wing his floated ball nearly resulting in a freak goal as it floated over the sprawling keeper and just sailed wide of the right hand post.

DC were denied a penalty as Mark Burns’ shot apparently hit the hand of Neil Alderdice from close range. The Whites immediately broke after this and David Wright had a great chance to get away a shot but he was hesitant and a perfectly timed challenge by Gary Warwick denied him.

A Glen Upton volley sailed wide of the post before DC had their first sight on goal following a mazy run by Kevin Hughes but Darren Nixon put it out for a corner.

Distillery were left scratching their heads on 34 minutes as Ally Wilson’s shot was saved down low by McErlean with that effort in turn being followed up by Kingsberry but once again McErlean made a flying save with his legs.

Manager Tommy Kincaid brought on ex-Glentoran man Sean Southam for David Wright. The first goal arrived on 47 minutes when Glen Upton ran onto a well timed through ball and he slotted home calmly.

It could have been two shortly afterwards as a punt upfield by Nixon saw a mix up between McErlean and Burns but at the second attempt McErlean took control and plucked it out of the air. And then only minutes later the visitors could, and indeed should, have been celebrating on fifty two minutes as Mark Shannon missed a sitter when all he needed to do was shoot but he took too long and Alderdice won it off him.

Wilson grabbed a second goal from a corner by Kingsberry, heading through the keepers legs.

Celtic’s day was summed up on 62 minutes as James Moore had a free shot but he completely scuffed it wide when well placed to score. The Whites were then nearly out of sight on 67 minutes as Glen Upton was played through but his shot was once again well saved by McErlean.

The game fizzled out from there with DC only having one shot on target as a long range shot by Conor Downey saw his shot make it awkward for Robinson to save low down to his left hand side.
