Whites return to form to secure their spot in Intermediate Cup

The Whites didn’t take long to start putting the Irish Cup defeat behind them as with only four minutes on the clock they took the lead as Sean Southam headed into the bottom corner of the net leaving Coagh keeper Hassan stranded, the ball being crossed in by Joe McDonnell a wonderful piece of play by the Whites.

Coagh Utd were level, however, on eight minutes as Peter Sergeant miskicked the ball allowing Matthew Kempton to run through on goal and as Ryan McBride came out to close him down he ended up bringing the attacker down for a penalty.

Up stepped William Ferguson who smashed the ball low into the net straight down the middle.

A goal filled opening then to the game and this was to continue as the Whites took the lead again on 20 minutes as Southam grabbed his second.

He finished expertly after a delightful Stephen Doyle cross, a wonderful assist by the former Dungannon Swifts man as his cross was hit sweet as a nut.

Southam completed his hat trick five minutes later as he was on hand to tuck in from a short distance out, a great feat by the former Greencastle Rovers player who was having a superb game leaving Coagh very flat.

Distillery then nearly had their fourth as Jones’ rasping long range drive was superbly saved by the flinging Hassan.

However moments later Distillery were awarded what looked like a soft penalty as Doyle was brought down by Scott McGeown.

Up stepped Doyle to finish superbly low into the net, despite the keeper going the right way, and the goal would make sure at half time that the Whites would lead by 4-1.

Distillery were simply taking the fizz out of the visitors with their quick passing making Coagh chase shadows.

Whites keeper McBride made a superb save early in the second half to deny Mark Taylor as he tipped the ball away from goal springing to his right.

However, there was nothing he could do on 55 minutes as Coagh pulled one back.

Whites manager Tommy Kincaid opted to freshen up things by making a triple change.

For the next ten minutes or so the Whites took a while to settle back into the game following the changes.

As the newly introduced players settled, the Whites started taking control of the match once again.

Hassan made a superb save to deny Bingham, Robbie White had a superb chance for his first chance as he got away but he slipped before shooting goalwards.

At the other end McBride then made yet another superb stop to deny Mark Stewart as his powerful shot was well tipped wide of goal but as the final whistle drew close Distillery made it five as Doyle cut inside his shot going through the keeper, the Coagh keeper will have been disappointed that he couldn’t keep the ball out of the net.

Lisburn Distillery then go marching on in the Intermediate cup a superb performance by the Whites and in particular Sean Southam with his wonderful hat-trick.
