Wilson relishing Sky cameras

The teenager, who has played three times for Bob Ramsey’s side this year, goes into this Friday night’s encounter with Wales in front of the Sky Sports cameras, praying he retains his number one spot.

“I have really enjoyed my whole experience with the Northern Ireland Under 18’s in the Centenary Shield and to be honest I’m a little disappointed that it’s coming to an end this Friday,” he said.

“But as soon as the match against Wales ends, I’ll be already looking to work hard and try to make sure that I’m involved again next year.

“I thought I have done alright as we have played four games and I have played in three of them, so I was happy enough with it, but we now have this big game against Wales on Sky Sports 2 on Friday, so hopefully I’ll be starting.”

The 18-year-old student believes playing at a higher level can only but help him in the future.

“As I have said I have enjoyed every minute with Northern Ireland, unfortunately it’s ending on Friday and I wish it would be going on a wee bit longer.

Wilson returned to the ’Stute goals and helped the Drumahoe men secure a 3-2 win over Tobermore United, despite having a shoulder problem.

“I was happy to be back in the Institute team on Saturday and thankfully we won.

“I probably wasn’t meant to be playing because I was carrying an injury, but I came back and I was happy enough with my performance considering I was carrying the injury.

“Towards the end they started to have a few shots but I was able to keep their efforts out, there was one late on that I just about tipped over the bar.”

Because of his international commitments the Waterside men have had Marty Gallagher in goals recently, but although the season has only two games remaining, Wilson wants to ensure he’s ’Stute’s number one for the 2012/13 campaign.

“I’m determined to get my place back in the ’Stute team, because I really love playing out here at Drumahoe.

“Although it has been great playing with Northern Ireland it has put me out of the team for a while, but I’ll be knuckling down over the summer to ensure that I get my place back.”
