Win at DC ‘a good day at the office’ - Ferguson

GLENN Ferguson praised his Ballymena United players’ resolve after they came from behind to thump Donegal Celtic 4-1 at the weekend.

The Sky Blues recovered from conceding a goal from a penalty inside the opening two minutes to lead at the break, thanks to a Mark Burns own goal and a sumptuous 30-yard lob from Gary Liggett after DC keeper John Connolly had come outside his area to head clear, while second half goals from Shane Dolan and Alan Teggart wrapped up the win.

“It turned out to be a good day at the office, although I thought after the first minute it was going to be another one of those days,” said Ferguson.

“Things looked to be conspiring against us because, to be polite, I thought it was a pretty harsh-looking penalty.

“But we responded well and showed great character to come back and put in a good performance.

“Our first goal was an own goal from a cross into the box but the other goals were quality.

“We know Gary (Liggett) has those attributes in his locker.

“As a striker it sometimes takes a wee something just to ignite scoring goals and confidence and his two goals against Portadown won’t have done him any harm.

“Gary is going to be up around the 20-goal mark against this season, albeit that 13 or 14 of them were for Distillery but he’s a proven goalscorer and he will get better and sharper – he finished his goal really well.

“The one that pleased me the most was the fourth one – we were down to 10 men and under the cosh a bit and Alan Davidson has played a great pass into Alan Teggart’s run and he produced a composed finish,” added Ferguson.
