Win in friendly derby for Gers Swifts

BANBRIDGE Rangers Swifts and Seapatrick Reserves met in a friendly match on Saturday at Crystal Park ahead of each of the side’s opening league games this Wednesday evening.

The game was a very good runout for both sides with Seapatrick edging Rangers by the odd goal in three.

The scoring was opened by Lee McCullough just after the half hour mark when he skipped past his marker Campbell and caught the Village keeper out with a well struck shot to the near post.

Banbridge Rangers tried to hang onto to the half time whistle with McDonnell missing two clear chances in succession but a Seapatrick reprieve came their way with a headed goal from close range in stoppage time.

The second half was less fluid for both teams with several changes to personnel but it was a similar story with Shea McDonnell firing wide on several occasion when well placed.

The decisive goal came just after the hour mark with Tony Graham slotting past debutant Rangers keeper Jonny Parkes from the penalty spot.

Both teams had chances to find the back off the net before the end of the game with John McCahon curling over the bar from close range in stoppage time at the end of the game. On Wednesday evening Seapatrick Reserves travel to Lurgan Junior High to take on Hill Street Reserves whilst Banbridge Rangers third string will take on Moneyslane Reserves at Havelock Park, both kick offs are at 6.30pm.
