Win is ‘real confidence booster’ ahead of Dollingstown match-up

Manager Jason Wilmont was unavailable this weekend but his team was left in the very capable hands of Jonny Hume and Ian Bellingham.

Following their victory Jonny Hume commented: “It was a big game. They started really well and played some good football until they missed a penalty.

“That gave us a bit of belief and we created a couple of chances and got to half time.

“We got the lads fired up and they went out and played better football in the second half.

“We put ourselves in front with a good finish from Kirk Brace. We pushed on from there and we continued to grow in confidence from there.

“The guy that missed the penalty was their best player and I think that affected them because you could see his confidence had been knocked and it allowed us to get back into the game.

“We were more than happy to get any result especially coming in to this part of the season with only a month left. It’s a real confidence booster.

This week Glebe are at home to Dollingstown, something of an unknown quantity for the men from the Toon.

“We still have to play them at home and away,” continued Jonny. “They’re a new team who came into the league this year and to be honest I don’t know much about them.

“I know they have a couple of players who are on that Junior International side and that they like to play a bit of football.

“It was good to keep a clean sheet on Saturday, we just need to keep building on recent performances. For most of the season our problem has been getting the same players on the pitch two weeks in a row.

“Hopefully next week we should have a full squad to choose from and we can get a few more points on the board.”
