The Moyle Primary School pupil was selected to be one of mascots the for the World Cup qualifier and is pictured here turning around to watch Fabio Capello’s men sing their national anthem.

His mum, Donna, spoke of her overhelming sense of pride at seeing her son take to the hallowed turf and said this photograph (left), taken by Belfast-based agency Presseye, captured just how big an occasion it was for the seven-year-old.

Robert walked out hand in hand with Russia’s skipper, Igor Denisov (Dinamo Moscow), as the teams made their way out onto the pitch to be greeted by 11,000 fans for what proved to be a memorable match.

He watched on from the stands as Martin Paterson headed in Niall McGinn’s inch-perfect cross to give Michael O’Neill his first win as boss.

Football-mad Robert plays for Larne Youth’s 2005 team, and Northern Ireland and West Brom centre-back Gareth McAuley is one of his heroes.
