Women’s team looks forward to new season

The club are hopeful of a bit of success this season with the girls fighting it out for a high position in the NIWFA Championship.

In fact they have already got this season off to a flier after winning a pre-season tournament played amongst the local ladies’ teams.

During preseason four local sides took part in the mini cup competition to prepare them for the forthcoming season. In the two semi-finals Dromore faced Banbridge Ladies, with Dromore coming out on top.

In the other semi-final Banbridge Rangers played Moneyslane with Rangers winning on the night. In the final Dromore were too strong for their opponents to leave them in the best position possible for this weeks game.

It’s already proving to be an exciting season for the club with changes taking place off the park too.

Dromore Ladies’ newly elected chairman, Mark Rimmington, is looking forward to the forth coming season and had this to say on it and their new girls youth venture.

“This year sees the start of an exciting development with the introduction of football coaching for girls in Dromore in conjunction with Dromore Amateurs Youth F.C.,” said a club spokesperson.

“For years players have generally stayed loyal to the first club they played for but now with more and more womens football teams popping up competition for players is at an all time high so we hope that this initiative with provide us with a steady stream of players in the long term.

“It is great to see the high numbers of girls having fun at the coaching sessions.”

The spokesperson continues, “The Championship is traditionally the most competitive division in the country and this season should be no different.

“If Dromore Amateurs Ladies can maintain a level of consistency there is no reason why we can’t have a very successful season under the management of Roger McCartan.”
