Wright resigns at Distillery

TOMMY Wright has resigned his post at Lisburn Distillery to take up a coaching role at St Johnstone who are set to name Steve Lomas as their new manager.

Wright met with the players at training on Tuesday night and informed them of the offer to move to the Scottish Premier League side and said that he was going to take it.

His assistant John Cunningham and first team coach Glenn Ferguson will be in charge for the crucial game at home to Donegal Celtic on Saturday.

The pair are set to meet the Lisburn Distillery board prior to the game. Wright’s departure could open the door for Glenn Ferguson to take his first steps in management - something he has wanted to do for some time.

Wright succeeded Jimmy Brown as Distillery manager in September 2009 and despite relegation looming he hauled the club back from the brink and they survived the drop.

Things began to improve and last season the Whites won their first major trophy in 13 years when they lifted the CIS Cup after beating Portadown 2-1 in the final.
