YM Ladies host Glens this evening

ALL roads will lead to Drumahoe tonight (Wednesday KO 7.30pm) as YMCA Ladies host the top side in Northern Ireland ladies league when Glentoran Belfast United visit, in a match which really will indicate just how far the young YM side have come in the last few seasons.

YMCA have been unbeaten at Drumahoe for 18 months and Belfast United will give this excellent record its sternest test yet and a large crowd is expected.

The Drumahoe ladies made history last Wednesday evening when they played their first NIWFA Premier League match and got a fantastic result when they left Ballymena Showgrounds with a share of the spoils.

YMCA were hosted at the Showgrounds by Ballymena All-Stars who finished third in the Premier League last season and YM went into the game as underdogs.

However the youthful YM side started very brightly and Aine McKeever was causing the Ballymena defence all sorts of problems with her incisive through balls, feeding strikers Kendra McMullan and Avilla Bergin. Both Bergin and McMullan went close with efforts in the first half but could not break the deadlock.

Ballymena created a couple of half chances but the YM defence of Chloe Archibald, Laura Nicholas and Ciara O'Kane dealt admirably with all that Ballymena through at them.

Ballymena put the YM defence some pressure at the start of the second half and mid-way through the half they took the lead when a shot was brilliantly saved by Alice Harkness in the YM goal but unfortunately the ball landed at the feet of the All Stars centre forward and she made no mistake from close range.

The young YM side however continued to play themselves back into the game and had a good chance to equalise when Hannah Kilgore was put through on goal but unfortunately shot past the post. Sarah Bergin, Coral Lapsley and Mc Keever linked up to put Avilla Bergin through but the keeper foiled Bergin's effort.

Ten minutes from time YM finally scored a deserved equaliser when a cross into the Ballymena penalty box caused havoc and the keeper and centre half collided and the ball fell to McMullan who smashed the ball home to earn YM a very creditable 1-1 draw.
