Youngest teams show winning way for Carniny Youth

ONCE again the younger Carniny Youth FC teams set the bar for the rest of the club with the 10s hitting Bloomfield for six, the 11s seeing off Irish League side Crusaders and the 12s had a comfortable win against Ballymoney Utd YA with a pair of hat-tricks from Doherty and O'Mullan.

Carniny 6, Bloomfield 1: Carniny had to come from behind for this victory after Bloomfield took the lead with less than five minutes until half-time..

Within five minutes of the restart, Carniny took the lead with an early goal from Archer, shortly followed by Hunter to make it 2-1.

Stewart then scored two in 10 minutes, after some great moves down the right flank from Gaynor and Hunter.

Carniny won a penalty when Hunter was up ended, but the keeper saved the spot kick that Hunter himself had taken.

Another Archer goal made it five and the final goal was a well deserved one for Jo Logan who picked up the ball near the halfway line and went around four players to slot the ball past the keeper.

Carniny: Ja Logan, S Clyde, M Kirk, S Gaynor, Jo Logan, J Campbell, C Gordon, D Archer, C Stewart, J Parker, M Winter, A Farquhar, J McQuillan, S Hunter, R Ervine.

Carniny 5, Crusaders 2: It only took five minutes for Carniny to take the lead, with O'Boyle scoring directly from a corner kick.

However; Crusaders levelled in the 12th minute with a mix up in the Reds’ defence. Before Young slotted home on 23 minutes to restore Carniny’s lead and just before the half time whistle, Downey made it three for the reds.

Crusaders cut the deficit early in the second half, but the introduction of two subs saw the Reds take charge when K O'Boyle played in Stewart for his fifth goal in two games.

On 54 minutes Stewart got his second of the match to put the game beyond Crusaders.

Carniny: Montgomery, Neilly, Marshall, Reid, McDonnell, Young, Lemon, Leetch, K O'Boyle, A O'Boyle, Stewart, Downey, O Brien, Wyllie.

Carniny 7, Ballymoney 1: Carniny's first goal arrived after two minutes when Doherty beat his man before driving in a low hard cross which Neilly impressively turned home.

Carniny continued to apply the pressure and the next goal duly arrived when Swann drove home after a rebound.

O’Mullan then met a clearance from the defender just outside the box and fired high just inside the keeper’s right hand post.

Doherty scored his first of the day mid way through the first half and his second came just before half time when he outpaced two defenders before coolly tucking the ball in.

Doherty completed his hat-trick within a minute of the second half and Keenan added to the Carniny score line with a little shimmy.

Ballymoney pulled one back but Carniny answered with O’Mullan tapping home at the back post and after a goal mouth scramble Smith added another from three yards.

O’Mullan then carried the ball the full length of the pitch before being up-ended in the box and up stepped McNeill who fired a terrific penalty into the roof of the net.

O’Mullan completed his hat-trick when he outpaced the Ballymoney defence shortly before full time, slotting home from a tight angle to end the game.

Carniny: O’Neill, Adams, Evans, McComb, McGall, O’Mullan, Keenan, Stewart, Swann, Neilly, Doherty, Smith, Anderson, McNeill.

Carniny 1, Dungoyne 2: The Reds certainly deserved something from this game and had they converted a late penalty would, no doubt, have earned at least a share of the points.

Carniny were caught with a cross come shot from the Belfast side after 10 minutes to put them ahead and Dungoyne doubled their lead on 20 minutes.

Campbell, McDonnell and Moore pushed to get their side back in the game and just before half time Shevlin rolled his marker before firing home.

The missed penalty incident 25 minutes into the second half could have knocked the heart out of most teams but not Carniny who threw all into attack but, alas, proved too little too late.

Carniny: Fyffe, McCullough, Killough, Rowe, Weir, Campbell, McDonnell, Mairs, Balmer, Shevlin, Moore, Millar, Sharp, Ballentine.

UNDER-14

Carniny 3, Maiden City 5: The visitors opened the scoring inside five minutes before a well struck goal from Ryan Agnew levelled matters.

City hit another one, which was answered with goals from both Lemon and Agnew and Carniny went into half-time leading 3-2.

This should have been match over had Carniny capitalised on their lead but instead, the Londonderry side scored another three goals as Carniny did not do themselves justice.

Carniny: Gillespie, McMath, McClean, Graham, McNiece, Crawford, Lemon, Nixon, Cummings, Hughes, Agnew, Calderwood, McCready, Gamble.

UNDER-15

Carniny 1, Lisburn Youth 1: Carniny hadn't looked under pressure until the stroke of half-time when the ball was needlessly given away to a Lisburn player, who broke through and gave keeper Holmes no chance.

Inside the final ten minutes, Carniny were awarded a free kick on the left-hand side. Dunlop fired in a great delivery to Johnston, who found the back of the net.

Carniny: T Holmes, D McComb, P McClure, J Johnston, A Rainey, J Watson, K McCartney, S Galloway, G Dunlop, C Douglas, K Beggs, D Agnew, A Henry.

UNDER-16

Carniny 3, Sion Swifts 0: The deadlock was only broken 14 minutes into the second half when Carson lofted in a free kick from the left to see Hood rise the highest to nod into the far corner of the net.

Number two came shortly after with Armstrong floating a corner in to see another headed goal this time from centre back Todd.

McKelvey completed the scoring, twisting and turning in the box to shoot home from close range.

Carniny: Dunlop, White, McAllister, Todd, C Greene, McClenaghan, Hood, Carson, McKelvey, Armstrong, Apsley, Williamson, McClean, Millar, Reid, Curry.
