Youth games virtually wiped out

DUE to disastrous weather conditions at the weekend all but one of the Institute youth teams matches were postponed. The Under 14s lost 1-0 to Oxford United.

This Saturday the Under 13s take on Ballinamallard in the NL Plate first round at Lisneal (KO 11am), the Under 14s have a friendly against Carlow Schools Select also at Lisneal (KO 11am). Both the U10/11 are on a break this weekend and return to action on Saturday, April 6.

The Under 14’s were up against Oxford United at Oakland on a very cold and windy Saturday morning and they disappointingly came away with no points from a game in which they played the better football with Oxford achieving an undeserved late goal.

In the first half, the ’Stute boys created some good play through Tyler Deighan who was linking well with Cloete and Waterstone.

There was some great attacking play on display with Smallwoods, Kincaid and Cloete on the left creating chances that Jamie Adams was unlucky not to get to.

The Oxford keeper pulled off some great saves to deny Deighan from long range.

’Stute had to work hard all over the pitch to match a physically strong Oxford side and in the first half they did come out on top albeit without the goal they deserved.

In the second half play was very much similar to that of the first with the visitors on top yet again and created four brilliant chances to score which left Oxford working tirelessly to keep the ball out of their net.

Aaron Gamble and Jamie Adams were also getting behind Oxford’s defence and Harry Waterstone was simply unlucky with a side foot shot. Following this the ball was scrambled out after three further attempts at goal.

Attacking hard, another two goal mouth scrambles ensued and still ’Stute couldn’t find the net.

Disappointingly for the visitors, Oxford then scored with five minutes left on the clock but previous to this ’Stute’s keeper, Jack Ward, had very little to test him.

This was a good team performance for the ’Stute boys with Jordan Killen notably having a fantastic game and man of the match going to Deighan.

The boys next league game sees them travel away to Linfield to play in the second round of the NIBFA Cup.
