Forge team win Willie Lucas Memorial Super 7s

COLERAINE'S Forge Bar from Coleraine, have won the Willie Lucas Memorial Super 7s Competition at the Park Plaza Hotel.

Captained by Willie Eakin, the New Market Street team were in unstoppable form, defeating Castle 11-4 in a one-sided final.

Nine teams entered - which meant three groups of three, from which the three winners and the best runner up qualified for the semi finals.

The Forge showed their nerve and experience to come back to beat the Rocktans from Carrick in a last frame decider for an exciting 11-10 win in Group 3.

Forge never looked back after that thrilling victory, beating the fancied Antrim Allstars 11-5 in the semis before completing a satisfying day with that 11-4 rout over Castle.

The day was all about remembering Willie Lucas, and it was great to have his partner Gillian and their son James present to hand over the prizes.

The teams also donated a large sum to the "Willie Lucas NICH&S Fund".

Forge’s results: Group 3 - Forge Bar 11-10 Rocktans; Rocktans 16-5 Ivy Inn; Ivy Inn 4-13 Forge Bar

Semi finals: Forge Bar 11-5 Antrim Allstars; Castle 11-6 Moes Grill

Final: Forge Bar 11-4 Castle.
