The flag at Banbridge Golf Club was lowered to half-mast last Saturday afternoon when the sad news filtered through of the death of Brian Coburn.

Brian, one of nature’s gentlemen, was captain of the club in 1967 and he took a keen interest in the club’s development all his life.

Brian was one of the country’s leading authorities on greenkeeping and he was always willing to give advice to the Banbridge club’s staff when requested.

He was a lifelong member of Royal County Down and he also served as captain of that world famous club.

Brian loved the game of golf and he was no mean player. A few short years ago, he won the Teddy Holton Memorial Trophy at Banbridge.

All the past captains playfor this accolade and it was a very nostalgic occasion when Brian won.

His funeral will take place at 2 pm this afternoon (Tuesday) at Bannside Presbyterian Church. May he rest in peace.
