Former students make their mark

SUPPORTERS with a good memory may recall the U.C.D.side which came to Hatrick Park for an AIB Senior Cup second round game in November 2008.

In their back-row that day was Kevin McLaughlin, who made his international debut last week.

The 25 year old, now with St.Mary's, faded from the limelight after a series of injuries and the arrival of Rocky Elsom and was considering other career options, but eventually broke into the international panel with some consistent performances for Leinster.

In the centre for U.C.D. that day was Fergus McFadden who scored two tries for the Irish Wolfhounds at Ravenhill last Friday night. The 23 year old, now with Old Belvedere, was making his eleventh appearance at this level.

A regular in the Leinster set-up, he was voted the Most Valuable Player of the tournament when Ireland won the Churchill Cup in the U.S.A. last summer.
