Four title haul for Stuart and the Woods sisters

Stuart McCollam and the Woods sisters, Chloe and Paige, returned from the Yonex Autumn Open with a total of four titles.

In the Under 12 Boys Singles Stuart, seeded No1, knocked out No3/4 seed Dylan Noble in the semi-final 21-11 22-20 and with No2 seed Scott Gildea losing out in the semi-final 21-19 in the deciding set the Alpha youngster was in control throughout the final, taking the title 21-9 21-11in just 24 minutes.

In the Under 12 Boys Doubles Stuart teamed up with Scott Gildea and the top seeds were to proceed through to the final with consummate ease and it was only in the second set of the final against Jason Ferguson from Banbridge - who had won the Consolation Boys Singles title – and Dylan Noble that the top seeds were under any pressure.

Although they managed to take the doubles title, Gildea and McCollam were taken to 25-23 in the second and they were relieved to secure the victory.

Seeded No2 in the Under 12 Girls Singles, Chloe Woods will have been delighted to win the title beating Neasa Flynn 21-17 29-27 particularly as she had such a difficult draw to get through to the final.

She had actually found herself one set down in her opening match against Siofra – who narrowly won the Consolation title beating Paige Woods 21-18 -when she was taken to three sets and only booked her passage into the next round 21-15 in the decider.

Chloe was a deserving winner 21-17 29-27 in a final lasting just over the half-hour mark.

This victory will give the young Alpha player a considerable boost to her confidence having lost to Neasa in the Connacht U11 championships back in October.

The Woods sisters were not finished as they waltzed off with the Under 12 girls doubles, beating their close rivals Neasa and Siofra Flynn 23-21 21-10.
