Fourths bounce back with win

South Fourths 2

Cookstown Fifths 0

After a disappointing result at home last week, South were hoping to bounce back this week. However, a trip away to a strong Cookstown side stood in their way.

The first half began with South firing on all cylinders; they hit Cookstown hard and fast and forced their way through the Cookstown defence time after time but the ball just wouldn’t sit for either of the South forwards, McCandless and Cahoon.

One half of the South attack got a deserved goal after some good work down the right hand side by the South midfield, Jonny Cahoon drilled a fantastic ball across the goal, McCandless made a run to the front post and smacked the ball in with a first time hit past the Cookstown keeper who had no chance.

South began the second half as they did the first, with pace and intensity. However the defence had to be on guard as Cookstown were beginning to show signs of life up front. South keeper Andy Cameron, who is progressing from strength to strength at South, kept out their efforts very well. Goal number two for South came about half way through the second half when the Fourths won a short corner. The Cookstown keeper managed 3 great saves in a row but couldn’t keep out the 4th rebound as Steven Hendron poked it in at the back post. Man of the match went to Jonny Cahoon.

The Fourths are at home on the brand new pitches at Friends’ School Lisburn on Saturday so all support welcome. Please come down and enjoy the new facilities; viewing gallery included, and watch the Fourths usher in the new era of Red and Black in the centre of Lisburn.
