Fourths leapfrog into second place

Banbridge started the better, dominating possession without creating too many chances.

It took the introduction of the prolific Gary Dean to break the deadlock. After good work by Joe McKnight in midfield Dean seized upon a loose ball before beating two defenders and flicking the ball over the onrushing keeper, completing a superb individual effort.

Five minutes later Banbridge added to their lead. Again it was Dean who seized upon hesitancy in the Campbellian defence to sweep the ball past the goalkeeper at the near post.

Banbridge did not sit on their lead and two minutes before half time Joe McKnight converted from a short corner to give Banbridge a 3-0 half-time lead.

Although the dominant side Banbridge had Justin Glass to thank for going into the half time break with a clean sheet. The young goalkeeper pulled off two spectacular saves through the course of the half.

To their credit Campbellians did not give up and managed to reduce the deficit 15 minutes into the first half.

Anxiety set into Banbridge play and Campbellians soon grabbed a second score to set up a tense final 10 minutes.

However, once again Dean came to Banbridge’s rescue, converting a swift counter attack to make the game safe.

It capped another excellent team performance from Banbridge with standout contributions from Dean and Andrew Liggett. The hat-trick brought Dean’s tally for the season to 12 from six games.

Mention should also be made of the impressive performances of debutants Peter McKnight and James Brown.
