Fourths lose but morale is high

Banbridge started the match strongly with some fast attacking play down the right flank by Lee Groves and Jordan Oliver.

Gary Dean also showed that he still possesses the skill and pace to scare defenders. The South Antrim central defence having to resort to last minute tackles to stop him.

The team worked the ball well across the field demonstrating that they are growing in their understanding of each other, however, South Antrim scored a quick break away goal after attacking down the right.

Thankfully this didn’t affect the Fourths confidence as they continued to threaten and won several short corners.

Following half time Bann pushed Andrew Bennington into midfield to extinguish some South Antrim pressure. This caused their dominance to increase.

Ben McConnell showed some brilliant attacking play down the left hand side and partnered well with Niall Burns to cause the South Antrim team lots of problems.

The Banbridge team won a short corner which was pulled out by Joel Reid, stopped by Roger Martin and dragged by Dylan Cowan.

The drag was stopped by a South Antrim players chest on the line. Bann were awarded a stroke which was taken by Gary Dean. The ball flew past the keeper, but just wide of the right post.

Bann kept pushing for a goal, but South Antrim won a short corner which they successfully put away. Two-nil to South Antrim.

South scored another goal from some excellent play in the Bann D.

Bann kept pushing to get a goal and after several short corners Dylan Cowan finally dragged one expertly past the opposition keeper to his right hand side with two minutes to go.

The team kept working and created a couple more chances, but alas their keeper kept the ball out of their net.

The team morale still remains high and they look forward to the next match which will be held at Havelock this Friday evening.
