Foyle CC secureslocal sponsorship

ONE of Londonderry’s best local coffee shops the “Coffee House” Atlantic Quay has signed up to sponsor local racing team Foyle Cycling Club.

Owners Karen Wiener and Caroline Miller who are always welcoming to the guys and girls from the cycling club every weekend come rain or shine after there training runs. 

Laurence Watson, Club race Co-ordinator was thrilled with the sponsorship.

“Both Karen and Caroline have very kindly sponsored the clubs all new three day club race set to take place over three evenings in May from the 22nd to the 24th with all 110 club members pitting the biking skills against one another for the top racer in the Foyle ranks, from all different ages in the men’s and woman’s category’s.”

The Coffee House will also help fund the 10 men racing team that travels across Ireland every weekend from February 25th to September 7th.

The new club race will be named “The Coffee House club 3 day” and will see young race sensation Matthew Doyle challenge for the first place overall on completion of a 12 lap (20 miles) race round Campsie on the first night, a 4 lap (20 mile) race round Burt on the second night finishing off on a 10 mile time trial on the final night on the main road from Letterkenny to Bridgend and back.

Matthew and his team mates have a massive season ahead of them and intend to better there huge success last year in the first full season as a racing team,  Matthew had a very successful 2011 as a youth racer for both Foyle and the Irish national youth team. This season he will be moving up a level to junior and hopes to mirror his past season at a higher level.

Foyle’s club runs are a huge part of the teams training and are available to all club members and any newcomers to the sport are always welcome. Runs leave from Templemore Sports Complex at 9am Saturday and Sunday.

The distances vary in length and ability and always end up finishing at the Coffee House on the quay to catch up on the days events and for a good bit of craic.
