Foyle CC training sessions begin this weekend

FOYLE Cycling Club will be re-commencing their annual four week session for cyclists who wish to experience the fun and fitness of regular runs with the club.

The sessions will re-commence at 9am this Saturday, from the Templemore Sports Complex car park.

Two experienced club cyclists will take the group on a leisurely 20 to 30 miles cycle for a period of four weeks where cyclists can experience and develop their skills on working in a peloton; riding safely on the roads; setting up bikes for maximum output and understanding the importance of food and drink intake to ensure that the necessary energy for the run is maintained.

Anyone with a road worthy bike can come along and experience the thrill and fun of the great sport in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Foyle Cycling Club’s Chairman, Mark Moroney, insisted that beginners will not be commiting themselves to club membership by taking part.

“Each year we have had cyclists joinin the Foyle Cycling Club after spending time on this programme but anyone opting to take part in the session will not be commiting themselves to future club membership, that’s basically a matter for them,” he said.

“Cycling is a great sport to get involved in, Cyclists enjoy the fresh air, they enjoy scanning fantastic scenery; they are friendly, like minded people who help encourage others and a healthy lifestyle has always been part and parcel of the sport. So why not come along and give it a go,” added the chairman.

To get the full benefit of the programme, those taking part should be capable of cycling at least 20 miles on a regular basis and helmets are compulsory when taking part in the sessions.
