Foyle cycling club launches ‘Inishowen 100’

FOYLE WOMENS Aid has been selected as the main charity for Foyle Cycling Club’s 10th Annual ‘Inishowen 100’ which will take place on August 19th.

The popular event, which leaves from Templemore Sports Complex, has grown in popularity over the past decade with over 150 cyclists taking up the challenge last year. With the two infamous climbs of Mamore Gap, with a gradient of over 22 per cent, and Kinnego rising to 300m, the 100 mile route is a challenge to most cyclists but is achievable for anyone who has been road cycling.

A 60-mile route has been organised over the past couple of years for less experienced cyclists or those who want to stretch themselves. Both events are well marshalled and clearly signposted with regular food stops along the way.

“The interest in cycling has grown over the past years and with Bradley Wiggins winning the Tour De France this year, the sport’s popularity will continue to grow,” explained Foyle Cycling Club chairman, Mark Moroney.

“We would love to see all local cyclists taking part in the event this year. A wonderful sense of achievement will be experienced when completed. No time limits are imposed other than availability of a shower at the complex but this should give most riders 10 hours to complete both events.

“We would love to see new cyclists join us on a Saturday morning to build up the miles or put in the extra mileage yourself and take part in what is always a fun and rewarding event for everyone taking part,” added Mark.

Entry forms are available through the Cycling clubs website www.foylecycling.net or directly at www.entrycentral.com/index.php?raceID=100200.
