Foyle Hockey girls in full swing

The season for Foyle College hockey teams is now in full swing, seven teams have been lining out regularly on Saturday mornings to play friendly and league fixtures.

The two Under 13 teams have had mixed results but are quickly gaining experience at the 11 a-side game and no doubt will see greater success as the season progresses.

A number of Under 12 and Under 13 girls have been selected to attend training at the recently formed North-West Hockey Academy. Katie Scott and Codi Miller have been selected to attend the Ulster U15 Talent Development Squad.

The Under 14 team have set the pace by beating Limavady Grammar 2-0 in the second round of the Junior Schools’ Cup.

At Senior level the second XI beat Bloomfield Collegiate in the second round of the McDowell Cup in an exciting game at St Columb’s Park last Wednesday.

The first XI has made a very good start to the season with recent wins over Limavady Grammar and a strong Omagh Academy side.

They begin their Senior Cup campaign this Saturday at St Columb’s Park. Home advantage should help the team in what will be a very tough match against the much fancied Ballymena Academy.

Centre pass is at 10.30am and a good turn-out of supporters would be appreciated by Captain Bronagh McKinley and her squad.
