Foyle men go down fighting

Foyle Men ...0Parkview...2

LAST time Foyle men hosted visiting Parkview it was only Foyle's second game of their new history, so how would a year's experience fair this time round?

Injury worries still keep J. Masoliver out but T. Daniel makes a tentative return. Bolstered by newcomer A. Hanna at left half the home side retained their stronger set-up from last week at Omagh.

From the start Parkview with decades of experience, pressed the home side intensively looking for an early opener for their account yet the Foyle defence and their last man held firm to weather these challenges.

In fact the teams looked evenly matched for much of the first half Ellis sharp to cover the angles as did his counterpart for shots from Hanna and K. McClelland.

However the stalemate was broken 10 minutes from the break with a swift interchange of play of one touch passing through centre right channel to open the score.

A brief injury substitution for Foyle then at left back was then exploited and cruelly met with a replica goal to make it 2-0 at half time.

At the restart Foyle sought to reinforce the weak channel and overall this appeared to work with very few attempts on goal.

Moreover Foyle applied more and more pressure gaining six penalty corners but were very unlucky not to convert after several goal mouth scrambles! Open play also saw two shots on target yet the Parkview keeper flexed well to maintain a clean sheet.

Despite the defeat Foyle's 'new boys on the block' are certainly on their way to getting multiple points this year if they keep improving as they have been.

This Saturday Foyle travel to Ballymena Showgrounds before returning to St Columbs Park, on Saturday, October 23.
