The Foyle College student secured a gold and silver medals at the Badminton England U13 Gold Tournament in Macclesfield at the weekend.

The 12-year-old was placed in the Gold Star Boys Singles and won all games in his group to get to the final were he faced Derbyshire player David Hong.

Unfortunately Magee lost to Hong in two games 21-17, 23-21 but still went home with a silver Medal.

The former Bready Jubilee Primary School pupil then teamed up with his playing partner from Wales, Oliver Stansfield for the Boys Doubles.

The duo won all games convincingly in their group to get to the final against a Scottish pair. In a hard fought game Kyle and Oliver win 21-17, 22-20 to claim their Gold Medal.

Kyle is looking to keep the badminton theme in the Magee family going.

Chloe Magee, who has won numerous titles and accolades over the years played for Ireland at two Olympic games in Beijing and London; is Kyle’s older cousin.

And Kyle is looking to follow in his big cousin’s footsteps one day. “Hopefully if I get picked in years to come I maybe can play at the Olympics, just like Chloe,” he said.

“If I do want to play at the Olympics one day, I know that I have to put in a lot of hard work and dedication.”
